Lovage
Lovage is a perennial herb that is native to Southern Europe but cultivated throughout the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. Also known as false celery, lovage has a strong celery like flavor with hints of parsley and just a touch of licorice. The stalks and leaves of lovage can be used in place of celery to flavor soups, stocks, and meat and seafood dishes. Italian cooking uses lovage along with garlic and oregano to flavor tomato sauce. Naturally, it can also be used in a Bloody Mary. The raw leaves can be added to greens in a salad mix, and are said to be excellent in eggs. While it is a versatile herb that can be used in a variety of ways, there are few lovage-centric recipes. Make sure to experiment and have fun!
